1. Wild Planet canned sardines
I like the Wild Planet brand of canned sardines because they’re wild caught, cleaned well, and the cans are BPA-free.
Because BPA is a hormone disruptor, I’m big on avoiding it as much as possible (you can’t always avoid it, but it’s a good idea to limit your intake of BPA).
It’s also nice to know that Wild Planet sardines are caught in the Pacific Ocean, off the West Coast of the USA – so you’re getting canned seafood that’s as fresh as possible.
The Wild Planet Sardines in Marinara Sauce is my favorite product of theirs. I’m not a huge fan of the taste of sardines in general, and marinara sauce does a pretty good job of masking sardine flavor.
Some people love the taste of sardines, and to them, I recommend Wild Planet Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
2. King Oscar Wild Caught canned sardines

Crown Prince is another great brand of canned sardines.
The Crown Prince sardines are wild caught, and are usually from either Morocco or Scotland. The cans are BPA-free, and they offer a pretty standard lineup of flavors.
Crown Prince also offers plenty of skinless and boneless varieties of sardines. So, you’ll probably want to try Crown Prince if you don’t like crunching on sardine bones (even though sardine bones are healthy for you).

While there are many other brands of canned sardines available, these three brands of canned sardines are the most popular and trustworthy. You can almost always find at least one of these three brands of sardines for sale in your local grocery store, or you can choose to order them from Amazon.

Warning about farm raised sardines
The reason that I recommend only three brands of sardines is because I know they’re wild caught and safe to eat.
And, you should not eat farm raised sardines under any circumstances, because farm raised seafood can actually be harmful to your health.
Farm-raised sardines are bred in unnatural conditions, don’t eat proper diets, and tend to be dirty, since they swim around in an enclosed (bacteria-infested) environment.
If you stick with the three brands listed above, you’ll at least know that you’re getting safe seafood.
