Updated: October 20th, 2019 I like feeling sharp, light and ready to crush life. That’s why alcohol doesn’t really mesh with my lifestyle too much anymore. It’s for this reason that the following 15 non alcoholic drinks could absolutely save your health, and possibly even your life (you never know what kind of illnesses these healthy drinks can help you prevent).
Most of the following drinks can even be made at home at a minimal cost.
But, I’ll also recommend some convenient ready-to-drink options that can save you a lot of time.
OK, here we go…
1. Turmeric shots (wellness shots)
Turmeric is one of my favorite spices in the world.
According to John Hopkins, there’s a chance that turmeric can even prevent cancer.
There are only two issues with the spice, and they’re only minor annoyances.
For one, turmeric tastes really bad. And two, you have to add black pepper to your turmeric to activate curcumin, which is the key cancer-fighting ingredient found in turmeric (according to Mercola).
So, the easiest way to get all of the benefits of turmeric is by gulping it down in a ‘turmeric wellness shot’. You only need three ingredients to make a potent shot of turmeric:
- Black pepper
- Your choice of taste-masking liquid (orange juice, coconut water, lemon juice – it’s all good)
It’s also important to keep in mind that turmeric is fat-soluble, so you have to take it with a source of fat to get the most benefits. You could mix olive oil or coconut oil into your shot directly, or simply take your shot after eating a hearty meal.
2. Yerba mate
When I need to interview a client or take a long phone call, I make sure to have a cup of yerba mate nearby.
Yerba mate is an ancient tea from the South American Rainforest. It contains a blend of excellent natural ingredients like amino acids, vitamins, caffeine, theophylline and antioxidants.
It’s a uniquely potent tea that can make you feel unbelievably relaxed, upbeat and happy for roughly 2-3 hours.
For convenience sake, I currently use Guyaki Brand Organic Yerba Mate Tea Bags.
Although, it’s also worth mentioning that you can brew loose leaf yerba mate to make an even stronger, bigger batch of this amazing non-alcoholic beverage. Best of all, yerba mate is great hot or cold, so it’s a great ‘social drink’ for any time of the year.
Kefir is one of the most life-changing non alcoholic drinks that anyone can benefit from.
It’s a fermented type of yogurt that tastes great, and contains healthy probiotics which help to detox your gut, and make you feel amazing.
I’m not kidding when I say that drinking kefir can literally change your mood, thoughts, and even the choices that you make. Yes, regulating your gut with healthy bacteria is just that important, as your gut acts as your ‘second brain’ (Scientific American). Most people don’t know this.
But, with the healthy probiotics found in kefir, you have the power to enjoy more control over your thoughts and emotions.
Kefir is available at most health food stores and mass market grocery stores.
4. Hand squeezed lemonade (sweetened with xylitol)
While this is one of the most basic non alcoholic drinks known to man, it’s still an important one.
Hand squeezed lemonade quenches your thirst, tastes great, and boosts your immune system with a blast of vitamin C.
I like to sweeten my lemonade with Xlear Xylosweet, as xylitol is most the best natural alternative to sugar available.
Kombucha tea is probably the tastiest booze-free beverage options on this list.
In fact, kombucha sometimes tastes really similar to cider beer, so it’s one of the best-tasting and healthiest NA beverages around.
Kombucha contains a variety of healthy acids, vitamins and probiotics that leave you feeling happy, calm and focused. The probiotics are typically the greatest benefit involved with drinking kombucha, as just one glass can line your gut with healthy bacteria, and leave you feeling great as a result.
You can brew kombucha yourself at home, or purchase a ready-to-drink option.

6. Clean protein shakes
If you’re into lifting weights, walking, running, or doing anything active, then you might want to supplement your lifestyle with whey protein.
I’m not actually a big protein drinker, because I try to get most of my protein from my ordinary diet.
But, I love a great protein shake on occasion.
I’ve already reviewed Tera’s Whey Protein Unsweetened, and that is one of my favorite, most clean-tasting whey protein powders that I enjoy.
7. Special green drink
Joe Rogan is a man who understands the importance of having a special green drink.
Your special green drink can include whatever ingredients you like.
But, you might want to include awesome ingredients like:
- Lots of ice
The key is to use two or three green vegetables, and only one fruit ingredient in your special green drink. This will help you get the most nutrition while still being able to enjoy a sweet beverage.
8. Raw beet juice
Beet juice is one of my all-time favorite pre-workout beverages. It’s like an energizer for your mind and body, so it’s perfect for drinking right before a workout.
Beet juice is especially amazing for your cardiovascular system, too. Your body actually converts the nitrates found in beet juice to nitric oxide – which is like fuel for your body. This results in more blood flow, lower blood pressure, and greater strength and endurance.
I always make my beet juice at home using fresh beets and a Vitamix blender. But, any type of relatively powerful blender should do the trick.
9. Bone broth
While bone broth is technically a soup, it can still be poured into a tall go-cup for some excellent health benefits.
Bone broth probably isn’t something that you should take to a party. But, when you’re relaxing at home, you should drink it for its exceptional health benefits.
This type of broth is considered extremely healthy because when bones are boiled, the result that you’re left with is packed with nutrients that can improve your immune system, make your skin look better, and heal your gut.

10. Real hot chocolate
When you make real hot chocolate that consists of raw cocoa powder, you get the full benefits of this delicious drink.
All that you need to make real hot chocolate is:
- Raw cacao powder
- Whole milk
- Dash of cinnamon
- Your choice of sweetener (I enjoy raw honey or xylitol)
11. Strong coffee
Coffee is a powerful non alcoholic beverage that plenty of people underestimate.
Most people tend to underestimate the power of coffee because they drink it so often that it becomes like a normal activity after a while.
In reality, coffee contains natural caffeine, antioxidants and benefits that can even help to prevent cognitive decline.
It’s usually best to get your coffee beans fresh from a local health food store.
But, when I’m on a budget and need to stock up for a heavy few weeks of work, I usually nab some bricks of Cafe Bustelo (strong, “supreme” Cuban-style espresso coffee that’s reasonably priced).
12. Raw apple cider vinegar and honey
While it still hasn’t been scientifically proven, I’m inclined to believe that the health benefits of drinking raw apple cider vinegar (with the mother) are amazing.
According to Authority Nutrition, raw apple cider vinegar may help you kill off bad bacteria, burn fat, lower cholesterol, and potentially even fight cancer.
And when you mix raw apple cider vinegar with water and honey, you’re left with a natural and healthy concoction that tastes great too.
13. Natural coconut water
When I stopped drinking harmful sugary drinks like Powerade and Gatorade, I knew that I needed a good replacement.
What I eventually found is that coconut water is probably the most important non-alcoholic drink in existence, other than water.
Coconut water is loaded with amino acids, enzymes, potassium, b-complex vitamins and many other goodies that make you feel great.
I highly recommend drinking a tall glass of coconut water as soon as you wake up (when your body is in its most dehydrated state).
If you have access to fresh coconuts, that’s amazing. That’s the best way to gain access to pure coconut water.
For a more convenient way to drink coconut water, try visiting a mass market grocery store in your area. I usually get my coconut water in bulk from Winco, Aldi or Sprouts.
14. Maca powder mixer
Raw maca powder is powerful. I regularly make a quick maca powder mixer before I workout or go out for the night.
Maca powder is a finely ground root that’s loaded with health benefits. It gives you a fast burst of energy and sexual vitality. It’s also said to help balance your hormones. So, in addition to helping you experience better workouts, maca powder is also excellent to use before a big night out (party, social event, company get-together etc).
The only downside of maca powder is that it tastes really bad.
But, when you mix maca powder in a small (4 oz) glass of chocolate almond milk, it goes down pretty easy.
So, all that you need to make this drink is:
Chocolate almond milk
Your choice of natural sweetener (optional)
15. Pomegranate juice
I saved the best healthy drink for last.
Pomegranate juice is one of the greatest juices you can bless your body with.
By drinking fresh pomegranate juice, you’ll almost immediately improve your cardiovascular health, feel more energized, and possibly even protect yourself against cancer (Dr. Fuhrman).
I absolutely love pomegranate juice, and can’t get enough of it. I think that you’re going to enjoy it too.
